Low-FODMAP Personal Chef in Chapel Hill and the Triangle
Low-FODMAP is one of the hardest ways of eating to cook for. The foods that cause trouble are the ones that make everything else taste good. Onion. Garlic. Wheat. Beans. Certain fruits. Honey.
So you read every label, eat the same plain chicken and rice, and still worry about what is hiding in it.
Chefs who know this way of eating

The Travelling Cafe is a collective of personal and private chefs in Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh and the Triangle. We cook in our clients’ own kitchens, for households where the way someone eats is not optional. Low-FODMAP is one of the protocols our chefs cook every week. They know where FODMAPs hide and how to cook around them.
We cook the plan your clinician or dietitian set. We don’t diagnose, set targets or give medical advice. You bring the plan. We make it taste like dinner.
What that looks like
- Garlic-infused oil instead of garlic, and the green tops of scallions and leeks instead of the bulbs
- Fresh herbs, ginger, citrus and toasted spices to carry the flavor
- Stocks and sauces made from scratch, with nothing hidden in them
- Elimination and reintroduction phases tracked, so the menu changes as you do
Three ways to work with us
Weekly meal prep. A chef from the collective comes to your kitchen once a week, shops, cooks a week of meals to your plan, labels everything and cleans up. One all-in price. Groceries are included.
Dinner parties. One menu the whole table eats, built so the person following low-FODMAP can eat every course alongside their guests.
Private cooking classes. Learn to cook low-FODMAP yourself, hands on, with one of our chefs.
Every dietary need, same price.
How it works
- Tell us how you eat. Fill out our food questionnaire: your plan, other restrictions, and what you love.
- Meet your chef. We match you with a chef from the collective who cooks your plan.
- Open the fridge. Your chef shops, cooks in your kitchen, labels everything and cleans up.

We cook in homes across Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Durham, Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Pittsboro, Hillsborough and Chatham County.

Frequently asked questions
Can a personal chef cook low-FODMAP?
Yes. Low-FODMAP is one of the protocols The Travelling Cafe cooks routinely, in clients’ own kitchens.
How do you get flavor without onion and garlic?
Garlic-infused oil, the green parts of scallions and leeks, fresh herbs, ginger, citrus and spices. Stocks and sauces are made from scratch so nothing is hidden.
Can you follow my reintroduction phases?
Yes. Your chef tracks what your dietitian has cleared and adjusts the menu.
Do you decide which foods I test?
No. Your gastroenterologist or dietitian sets the plan. We cook it.
Can you cook for more than one dietary need in the same house?
Yes. Many of our households combine low-FODMAP with gluten-free, dairy-free or other needs.
How much does it cost?
Weekly meal prep is one all-in price with groceries included, and every dietary need is the same price. Fill out our food questionnaire and we will send the plan that fits your household.
