AIP Personal Chef in Chapel Hill and the Triangle
If you are following the autoimmune protocol, the hard part usually isn’t one recipe. It’s everything around it. Reading every label. Explaining yourself at dinner. Cooking two versions of the same meal. Food turns into a problem to solve three times a day.
AIP takes out grains, legumes, dairy, eggs, nuts, seeds, nightshades and refined sugar. Nightshades alone remove tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, paprika and most spice blends. That is why so much AIP food ends up bland.
Chefs who know this way of eating

The Travelling Cafe is a collective of personal and private chefs in Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh and the Triangle. We cook in our clients’ own kitchens, for households where the way someone eats is not optional. AIP is one of the protocols our chefs cook every week. Bland AIP food is a technique problem, not a protocol problem. We rebuild flavor from what is left, and the food can come from anywhere in the world.
We cook the plan your clinician or dietitian set. We don’t diagnose, set targets or give medical advice. You bring the plan. We make it taste like dinner.
What that looks like
- Slow-cooked onions and garlic, real stock, and fresh herbs by the handful
- Citrus and vinegar for brightness, coconut and avocado for richness
- Reintroduction tracked, so the menu grows as foods come back in
- One menu everyone at the table eats, with the compliant version as the default
Three ways to work with us
Weekly meal prep. A chef from the collective comes to your kitchen once a week, shops, cooks a week of meals to your plan, labels everything and cleans up. One all-in price. Groceries are included.
Dinner parties. One menu the whole table eats, built so the person following AIP can eat every course alongside their guests.
Private cooking classes. Learn to cook AIP yourself, hands on, with one of our chefs.
Every dietary need, same price.
How it works
- Tell us how you eat. Fill out our food questionnaire: your plan, other restrictions, and what you love.
- Meet your chef. We match you with a chef from the collective who cooks your plan.
- Open the fridge. Your chef shops, cooks in your kitchen, labels everything and cleans up.

What changes
Without help, AIP shrinks to the same five safe meals on repeat until you are ready to quit.
With a chef in your kitchen each week, you are eating dishes from around the world rebuilt for the protocol, and food is something to look forward to again.
We cook in homes across Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Durham, Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Pittsboro, Hillsborough and Chatham County.

Frequently asked questions
Can a personal chef cook for the autoimmune protocol (AIP)?
Yes. AIP is one of the protocols The Travelling Cafe cooks routinely, across many cuisines, in clients’ own kitchens.
Does AIP food have to be bland?
No. Bland AIP food is a technique problem. Our chefs build flavor without nightshades, dairy or standard spice blends.
Can you handle reintroduction phases?
Yes. Your chef tracks what your care team has brought back in and expands the menu as foods return.
Can you cook for a house where only one person is on AIP?
Yes. We build one menu everyone eats, with the compliant version as the default. Nobody eats a separate plate.
Do you tell me what to eliminate?
No. Your clinician or dietitian sets the protocol. We cook it.
How much does it cost?
Weekly meal prep is one all-in price with groceries included, and every dietary need is the same price. Fill out our food questionnaire and we will send the plan that fits your household.
Where do you cook?
